Raicilla Tasting

Raicilla is a traditional distilled agave spirit native to the western Mexican states of Jalisco and Nayarit. Long considered a “moonshine” of Mexico due to its small-batch, underground roots, raicilla predates many modern agave spirits and carries a deeply regional identity.

Raicilla was originally produced in the late 1700s as a way to avoid colonial taxes placed on distilled spirits. The name “raicilla,” meaning “little root,” was used as a disguise to continue production. Today, it is proudly recognized as a protected Denomination of Origin with two main styles: coastal and mountain raicilla.
